John - Cello

John, originally from Elgin, studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, prior to taking up a position in the Rome Opera Orchestra for two years.

Having decided to return to the UK to pursue a freelance career, he was soon appointed Principal Cello with the orchestra of Scottish Ballet, where he remained for eighteen years. From Rudolph Nureyev to Wayne Sleep, Bryn Terfel to Rod Stewart, Nicola Benedetti to Aly Bain, he has been fortunate over the years, to have worked with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.

Still very much in demand as an orchestral cellist with all the major orchestras in Scotland, John also finds time in his work schedule, to carry out a number of administrative roles. He is an orchestral manager for Raymond Gubbay Ltd. and also the General Manager for the Scottish Festival Orchestra, who perform a wide variety of concerts around the country.
